The Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination
The Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination (LISD) supports research, publication, and teaching on self-determination, state sovereignty, boundaries, and autonomy; related sociocultural, ethnic, and religious issues; aspects of international law and international politics; strategic, political, economic, and economic-industrial matters; and the role and character of international organizations such as the UN, the OSCE, and other regional organizations and NGOs in search of greater autonomy or independence. The program is funded through the generosity of H.S.H. Prince Hans Adam II of Liechtenstein, and is directed by program founder Wolfgang Danspeckgruber, lecturer in public and international affairs at the Woodrow Wilson School.
Minority Rights Group International (MRG) Minority Rights Group (MRG) works to secure the rights of ethnic, religious, and linguistic minorities and acts as an advocate for the rights of minorities. MRG works across groups to build links and to raise awareness of minority rights within a clear framework of international standards in a non-partisan way. The organization promotes cooperation and understanding by bringing together groups with different views to share experiences and solve problems collaboratively. This lays the foundation for building bridges across communities, while analyzing case studies and promoting good practices. MRG's current programs focus on minority rights' issues in Europe and Central Asia, Asia/Pacific, and Africa and the Middle East.
National Association for Ethnic Studies (NAES) NAES provides an interdisciplinary forum for scholars and activists concerned with the national and international dimensions of ethnicity.
Network Institute for Global Democratisation (NIGD) NIGD aims at promoting worldwide democratization at all levels. NIGD focuses on the impacts of globalization on democratization and, normatively, on democratizing globalization.
North-South Institute The North-South Institute is an independent research institute in Canada focused on international development. The Institute conducts research on Canada's relations with developing countries and on a wide range of foreign policy issues. The research supports global efforts to strengthen international development cooperation, improve governance in developing countries, enhance gender and social responsibility in globalizing markets, and prevent ethnic and other conflict.
Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) NUPI focuses on generating new insights and making available existing knowledge that concerns framework conditions for Norwegian policy vis-ā-vis the South, on describing and analyzing Norwegian policy, and on communicating knowledge inside Norway. One of their major areas of research is the "Program on Integration and Sovereignty."
Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe is a regional security organization whose 55 participating states are from Europe, Central Asia, and North America. The OSCE has been established as a primary instrument for early warning, conflict prevention, crisis management, and post-conflict rehabilitation under Chapter VIII of the Charter of the United Nations.
Partners for Democratic Change Partners for Democratic Change is an international organization committed to building sustainable local capacity to advance civil society and a culture of change and conflict management worldwide. Since its inception in 1989, Partners has provided vital communication, negotiation, and cooperative planning skills to thousands of civic, NGO, municipal and national government leaders in nearly 40 countries. Partners locally managed national centers' work within communities to facilitate the resolution of disputes and build consensus on neighborhood, business, majority-minority, and citizen-police issues. Partners' centers are currently located in Argentina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Georgia, Hungary, Kosovo, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and the United States.
Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs Pugwash is an international network of scientists and policy specialists who convene some 8-10 specialized workshops a year on nuclear weapons, arms control, chemical and biological weapons, and intervention and sovereignty.
